This year, Gucci is celebrating its 90th anniversary in a Common Heritage event at the Golden Temple in Japan. The exhibition will honor the bond between Florence, Italy, which is the city where Gucci was born, and Kyoto, Gucci’s sister city. This will mainly highlight the artistic riches that Italy and Japan share via a mutual custom of artistic craftsmanship, which is exemplified by Gucci designer clothing.

Gucci also announced the production of a beautifully crafted limited edition bracelet that they are selling for the benefit of Japan Earthquake Relief. The Japanese Red Cross will be the beneficiary of all proceeds from the sale of the charity bracelet and it features a red and white web evocative of the Japanese flag in its coloring. A medal is attached and fittingly says “Gucci Loves You”. This stylish bracelet for a very good cause will be unveiled first in Japan, followed by its worldwide distribution in the U.S. and across Asia and Europe.

Gucci has recently partnered with Safilo, an international frontrunner in the first-class eyewear area, to introduce a brand new collection of sustainable eyewear and Gucci sunglasses. This new line will include a total of four models that will be made from groundbreaking acetate in two colors, green and red, that contains a much greater percentage of natural materials than any other optical frames. This new line of Gucci sunglasses will be introduced in August along with another new collection called the Gucci Eyeweb collection for young dynamic consumers who are aware of environmental issues. This Gucci sunglasses collection will be made up of two bio-based models, manufactured from natural material that is made from castor-oil seeds for the purpose of a gradual reduction of the environmental effect. In early 2012, Gucci will introduce special packaging for the new eco-friendly eyewear, that will greatly simplify the production process, and their subsequent eyewear catalogues will utilize only paper certified by the FSC.
